Introduce a Production FC5 Desktop
Description:
Create a production quality FC5 Desktop for staff and lab machines. This is a subproject of the FC5Upgrade
At the start of the development process FC5 was the current fedora core product and the logical base for the next version of DICE.
Deliverables: A production service running on lab and staff machines. Suitable Documentation for the system to be managed day to day by the support unit and to provide a gentle introduction for new users.
Customer: Everyone
Case statement: It's part of the annual upgrade program and needed to support new hardware.
Status:
Timescales: The Dekstop needs to be ready in order to deploy in labs and on staff desktops for the start of term^h^h^h^h semester (18th September)
Priority: high
Time:
Proposal: Deploy on all desktops.
Resources: This is a large scale project and will require wide cross team resources.
Plan:
- Produce bugzilla list of rpms needing updating
- Produce bugzilla list of desktop checklist.
- Deploy test machines for staff to check hardware
- Deploy on C(S)O's desktops
- Once we have an acceptable base we can work from start installing in labs
- Once we have a working desktop start deploying to selected staff.
- Beta test and polish.
- Site wide deployment.
Dependencies: FC5 has to ship.....it did.
Risks: We need to have a working desktop.
