What:
Description: The approach used with LCFG in Informatics is "heavyweight" prescriptive management where we aim to manage all aspects of a system. This is the recommended approach and it works well for us but is not so good for new users. There is a requirement for a more minimalist LCFG which can be used for educational purposes and also where sites want to implement LCFG gradually.
Deliverables:
- A pair of meta-packages (lcfg-minimal-server, lcfg-minimal-client) which require the minimal set of LCFG packages and contain scripts which handle any install issues.
- All LCFG components would fully describe their dependencies to ease installation.
- A minimalist boot script.
- Overcome the bootstrapping issues related to creating a self-managing LCFG client/server installation such that no manual effort is required to get into a basic working state.
- Instructions/howtos on how to setup VMs (e.g. for vmware or virtualbox) for the purpose of using the minimal LCFG.
Why:
Customer: This would be used by Informatics, IS and external groups to teach/learn the basics of LCFG.
